The Role of the PA

Defining the role and responsibilities of the PA in the context of today’s changing business needs; keeping up to date with the latest business jargon.

The Manager/PA Partnership

Acknowledging the role of management; highlighting the need for PAs to work on a proactive basis; establishing the PA’s requirements to be proactive; laying the foundations of an effective working partnership.

Written Communication

Analysing the principles of good business writing; planning and structuring correspondence; establishing good email etiquette; replying to invitations; issuing a press release.

Meetings

Preparing for a business meeting; following up after a meeting.

Verbal Communication

Identifying the barriers to verbal communication; listening actively; building rapport in face-to-face encounters; establishing ways to make telephone communication more effective; using effective questioning techniques.

Report Writing

Establishing the structure and features of a report; identifying a structured system for collecting relevant information; writing a report.

Time Management

Identifying delegates’ principal time management problems; devising strategies for overcoming time-stealers; delegating successfully.

Budgets

Identifying why budgets are essential: analysing how budgets are constructed and their use as a financial tool; analysing and interpreting budget figures; identifying three financial statements and analysing the information they provide.

The training process is based on a carefully planned mix of succinct tutor input - with practical illustration of tools and concepts, group work on case studies (all video based - and lively), feedback, and selective work on individual issues in pairs. Team involvement and working enable a strategy to be created from start to finish. The Training is based on the 4 mat systems to enable complete learning. There will also be some opportunity for role play. You will receive an electronic toolkit within the material for subsequent everyday use.

The Facilitator for this workshop is a highly experienced assistant to Company Directors, Financial Directors and a Company Secretary with cross industry experience in this subject area in the UK and globally.
